The New York Times has been at the forefront of development for digital platforms in the newspaper sector, and this week added one more "experimental" way for readers to access its content.
Yesterday, The NY Times launched a new Web app for the iPad, CNET reported.
Using HTML5, the app offers four ways to read The Times, by pulling news from the newspaper's website, and breaking them into separate sections - Times Wire, All Sections, Today's Paper, and Trending, PCmag.com explained. The Web app is noticeably different from the apps sold in the iTunes store, the report stated.

The web app is available to
subscribers who can also install the app via Safari on their iPads, and must have
an online, digital, or home delivery account to log in.
Non-subscribers can also try the new app by paying an introductory deal of 99 cents for the first four weeks. If they
want to keep the subscription afterwards, they have to pay either $5 or $8.75 a
week depending on the level of access.
"Our subscribers
have told us they are interested in trying new ways of reading The Times
across a variety of platforms," said Denise Warren, NY Times Media Group
chief advertising officer and general manager of NYTimes.com.
According to The Verge, this may indicate intent to extend the new Web app to Android and Windows 8.
