Twitter confirms 'significant' funding from Russian company

Twitter confirmed that it has received “significant funding” from Yuri Milner’s DST Global, a Russian investment company, according to the company’s blog post.

Twitter did not specify the size of the investment, but, according to reports, the deal was at $400 million plus another $400 million in secondary funding, The Telegraph reported.

“We’ve come very far in a short time. Now we have an opportunity to expand Twitter’s reach with a significant round of funding led by the venture firm DST Global, with the participation of several of our existing investors,” according to the company post.

“We will use these resources to aggressively innovate, hire more great people and invest in international expansion.”

Twitter continues to grow globally - it generated 65 million tweets a day one year ago. Right now, the number of tweets in a day exceeds more than 200 million, ZDNet reported.
