Rival newspapers the Boston Globe and the Boston Herald said they are negotiating a plan in which the Globe would print and distribute some editions of the Herald, The Associated Press reported Wednesday.
The Herald would pay the Globe to print and deliver the taboid in the Boston area. The measure would help the Herald lower its operating expenses, while the Globe would gain another customer in its printing and delivery services business, a growing source of revenue, according to the Globe.
Terms of the deal have not been disclosed, but that some Herald truck drivers will be laid off if the deal goes through.
Currently the Globe has contracts to print the Patriot Ledger in Quincy, Massachusetts, and the Enterprise in Brockton, as well as local editions of The New York Times.
