Study: DVD revenue dropped 44%

DVD revenue from retail, mail order and kiosk plunged 43.9 percent in 2010 for the movie studios to $4.47 billion from $7.97 billion in 2009, according to a recent SNL Kagan study, Media Post reported.

Among the 415 titles tracked in 2010, the total units shipped were down 43.8 percent to 226 million. It was resulted from growing digital and streaming business from Netflix, improving video-on-demand services from cable, as well as satellite and telco operators stepped in the business, according to SNL Kagan.


Compared to the previous year, The revenue average titles pulled in also dropped, to $10.8 million from $22.6 million. Over the past five years, the compound annual growth rate of average wholesale revenue was 13.7 percent, Media Post reported.
