Canadian web users still trust content from the mainstream media over other sources, according to the latest report from the Canadian Media Research Consortium (CMRC).
The report said about nine out of 10 wired Canadians trust the information from newspapers, television, radio and online news sites to be reliable, The Globe and Mail reported.
Only 26 percent, however, think information from social networks is reliable, while 65 percent think news from family and friends is reliable.
Regarding information from governments or major corporations, 42 percent and 38 percent, respectively, said they are very trustworthy or trustworthy.
When it comes to citizen journalism, most of the respondents think it was best left to traditional reporters, the report pointed out. The percentage is higher among people between ages 18 and 34, with 40 percent thinking it could provide Canadian perspective and 37 percent thinking it could provide the story behind headlines, CMRC reported.
