Android’s U.S. market share widens

Android continues to lead the race of smartphone platforms in the United States, with share increasing by 5.2 percent to 36.4 percent for the three months ending in April, according to the latest comScore data, Media Post reported.

Apple's iOS, came next with its share up 1.3 percent to 26 percent. Research in Motion's BlackBerry OS continued to lose ground, down nearly 5 percent to 25.7 percent.

Microsoft has not yet shown any share gains since the launch of Windows Phone 7 last year – its share slipped from 8 percent to 6.7 percent. Palm's webOS only marked a share of 2.6 percent, PCMag reported.

Regarding phone manufacturers, Apple was the biggest gainer, with its share up from 7 percent to 8.3 percent. Samsung, however, stayed at the top of the category with 24.5 percent, followed by LG’s 21 percent and Motorola’s 15.6 percent. RIM also was in the top five with 8.2 percent.
