Report: Facebook creating iPad app

Facebook still does not have an application for the iPad, more than a year after its launch. However, the social networking giant is expected to launch a free iPad app for the tablet in the coming weeks, The New York Times reported yesterday.

According to “people briefed on Facebook's plans,” the app has been in the works for almost a year, and is currently being tested in its final stages. Apple is also planning to promote the new app by prominently featuring it in the App Store.

Facebook for iPhone is the most-downloaded iPhone app ever, PCMag.com pointed out.

Because it has taken so long for Facebook to release its own app, third-party developers have filled the gap, creating some of the most popular apps in the App Store, such as iFace and Friendly.

The wait has been so long because the app has been redesigned several times to be optimised for the tablet, according to Time.
