Motorola CEO: It's (still) a wired world

A wireless world isn't going to happen just yet, Motorola Mobility Holdings Inc. Chief Executive Sanjay Jha said today.

In the United States, wired broadband service will likely be the main source for media content, such as video, for “a long time to come,” despite proliferation of mobile and tablet devices, he said at an annual conference hosted by the National Cable & Telecommunications Association in Chicago, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Additionally, despite 4G wireless service having potential, it “just isn't big enough” for the amount of data people will be accessing in the next several years, he said, according to the Financial News Network. “That is why the broadband-equipped home will be the central hub.”

Jha's statements show the limitations still on wireless, even though it is booming. Data out yesterday from Rutberg & Co. shows the growth of data accessed on mobile devices skyrocketing. In the United Kingdom, for example, 48 percent of mobile users currently use a data service at least once a month; this is up from 30 percent last year.
